Pain, Sweat, and the Seasons: How we Built Jobloads

Born on an orchard after struggling through her first harvest, this is the story of how Jobloads came about, and maybe it’s your story, too.

Updated over a week ago

Hey there—

I’m Candice Pardy, the Founder and CEO of Jobloads. People often ask me why I started Jobloads. They think it’s a clever idea, so they’re curious about how it came to fruition.

It all started when I needed workers to harvest persimmons after buying an orchard. As the fruit came on, the workload ramped up. The plan was to be across all of the things, and support our site manager by outsourcing the additional workload to a contracting team, while staying focused on fruit quality, but we struggled. Sound familiar?

It wasn’t that we didn’t have the capability. There was just a lot of things happening and people to talk to. Search for a contracting team, carry out due diligence checks on the contractor, call the packhouse for labels, induct and train the workers, book the truck! You see where this is heading… we were disorganised, stressed, and we dropped the ball on our core focus, fruit quality.

As is often the case in situations like ours, our packhouse noticed before we noticed. That was the especially painful and costly lesson. We could only reflect on the time and money lost growing, harvesting, and shipping fruit that wasn’t fit for market.

We needed a better way to manage all of the people, jobs, clients, expectations, and compliance things every season, while staying focused on quality. So we decided to build a job management solution from scratch.

In Jobloads, everything can be managed, from searching for a contracting team, to assigning on the job tasks. It gives visibility to jobs that are scheduled or underway to interested parties — the seasonal business contracting the job, their contractor, their supply chain leader, in one place, where everyone can work together.

With everything recorded and organised in one place, everyone knows where to find what they need, and say what they need to say.

We've also built in a business-to-business (B2B) marketplace that connects contractors supplying their services to businesses with the demand. The product is designed to leverage ratings and reviews, similar to a holiday rental app, to help users build trust in the contractors who are inducted onto their site, use their equipment, and carry out their work.

I’m excited to share our early access beta with you. It’s a reflection of my passion to take the pain and cost out of the seasons and the belief that by doing this, we can cultivate better job experiences and vibrant, more resilient communities.

If you’re still reading this, thanks for giving the Jobloads BETA a try. Take a look around our website and if you have any questions, send me a message in the chat or email [email protected]

Regards,
